Why is This Important?

As the world around us is developing, we need to develop with it. In the year 2019, there are fights for homosexuality, race, self love, and many other things. Fighting for people with intellectual disabilities needs to be at the level of these other fights. It is so important to be inclusive to all people who have been brought into the world that we live in, and to fight for the rights of everyone.
Growing up with a brother who was born with Down Syndrome had made me see the world differently than my friends who did not have the same experience do. I have had conversations through out my life with many different people about how they feel people with intellectual and developmental disabilities should be treated, before the age of 18 many of these conversations involved my peers having little to no knowledge on how people with IDD are treated. After the age of 18, my peers seemed to be slightly more knowledgeable on the issues at hand, but it did not affect their lives personally so many of them did not know the fight.
The opportunity for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to get together and fight for themselves is not as easy as other fights for inclusion. This is a fight that needs to be fought for as a community, a country, a continent, and a world.
