The Special Olympics, founded in 1968, is an organization that gives individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to become physically active while experiencing joy and learning skills alongside their family and friends. The organization provides year round sports training and competitions in olympic based activities. After five decades of working, the organizations mission is still the same - striving to create a better world for the acceptance and inclusion for all people. The reason this organization chose to get people with intellectual disabilities involved in sports is because of the influential benefits its can have on someone's personality. Athletes who participate in the special olympics games, at any time of the year, find joy, confidence, and fulfillment within themselves and others.

My brother, Max, has been participating in the special olympics since he was around the age of 8 years old. It has helped him grow up to be an independent and confident young man. I hope the see the benefits of the special olympics reach far and wide to help people with intellectual disabilities grow and achieve excellence.
